For centuries the Majella's pastures have seen farmers and shepherds go up in the spring towards the mountain looking for plots of land to cultivate or fresh grass for their flocks.
The vertical transhumance has meant that, for several months, men or entire families were to leave for the mountains and there they built shelters using the bare limestone resulting from the work of stone clearance and remediation of pasture and crops.
These dry stone huts, and the system of walls and enclosures related to them, are still visible in many places of the majella National Park and often gathered into a agro-pastoral complex.
The tour will cover the rings of the complex of Colle della Civita and Colle dell'Astoro, near Roccamorice, and allow you to discover how the landscape that now appears to be abandoned and wild, was instead molded by peasants and shepherds during of past centuries.
