The Authentic Villages of the Baronia di Carapelle

The tour starts from the village of Castel del Monte - considered one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. We  reach it after traveling on scenic highway 17bis, that from the Capistrano plain  goes up to Ofena, Villa Santa Lucia and Castel del Monte.

We visit the Ricetto  district, consisting in an intelligent city plan, perfectly defensible. Walking on the streets of Old Town center we will know the traditions and the mysterious  castle beliefs that over the years brought forth  the wonderful representation of the Witches' Night  which is held each year on August 17 .

Visiting the Museo Civico Diffuso (free admission) - an exhibition circuit of the material culture, recreated in the original environment - we be familiar with the environment, tools and crafts of this village .

We will taste the dairy products and salami from the local farm Alessandro Pelini.

The tour continues to Calascio, a municipality member of the Association Authentic Villages of Italy, from where we reach Rocca Calascio situated at 1400 m a.s.l .

After lunch (packed lunch or if you prefer in a recommended restaurant) we visit the Rocca, often chosen as a location for film or advertising (Lady Hawke -1985, The Name of the Rose - 1985 The journey of the bride - in 1997, The horizon events - 2005, Padre Pio - 2006, The American - 2010) and ranked by the National Geographic magazine among the 15 most beautiful castles in the world.

Finally, we will move towards another Authentic Village of Italy: Castelvecchio Calvisio. This village has a particular elliptic shape. Here we find that there are still towns in Abruzzo who have their own entrance doorway!

This small village with its streets covered by vaults and arches, with houses on several levels, connected by ancient stone stairs is a small unique jewel .

PROGRAM

9:00am -  leaving Pescara,  Central Train Station  (cab parking lot)

10:15am - arrival in Castel del Monte, visit to the village

11:30am -  food tasting at  Alessandro Pelini farm  (his food store in the village)

1:00pm - arrival to Rocca Calascio, lunch (packed lunch or suggested restaurant)

3:00pm - visit to the Rocca

4:30pm - arrival to Castelvecchio Calvisio, visit to the village

5:30pm - leaving to Pescara

6:30pm -  arrival to Pescara - Central Train Station  (cab parking lot)
