Abruzzolink: guided tours with locals

Ortona,Rocca San Giovanni

The flavours of the Trabocchi coast and the Dora Sarchese winery.

With Maria Fantone

Stunning seaview, culture and fine wine.

A tour of the Trabocchi coast must start from Ortona: Pearl of the Adriatic sea,  as it was called by Gabriele d'Annunzio. And we'll start from Ortona and its  Aragonese castle.

The town of Ortona dramatically changed its appearance in the aftermath of the Second World War. we'lll visit the Castle, the old town, with its cathedral keeping the relics of St. Thomas Apostle, Palazzo Farnese and the Museum of the Battle.

Afterward we will go in the  Caldari district,  to visit  the  Dora Sarchese winery: It's a family-owned business, definitely atypical in the Italian scene. There you can appreciate all the organizational aspects of a typical farm of the nineteenth century.

The privileged position of its vineyards, and the soil rich in structure, enables them to produce a grape unique, full of all the organoleptic characteristics needed to create great wines.

The new winery, built in the eighties, renovated and expanded in 2007, is today one of the most important place for Abruzzo's wine culture. Rocco Valentini, an Architect-Engineer, has designed it as a multipurpose space, suited for work, for meetings and wine and food tasting.

The scenic route 16 will lead us to San Vito Marina and in in the end to Rocca San Giovanni, upon the Trabocco Punta Isolata (solitary point trabocco) , where rocked by the sea we'll discover the history of this ancient fishing machines.

The tour will end after a seafood dinner on the Trobocco Punta Isolata!
