A tour not to be missed between archeology and nature in the heart of the Twin Mountains.
The tour includes a nature walk at the archaeological site of the Cave of St. Michael the Archangel, in the Natural Reserve Gole Salinello, and a guided visit to the National Archaeological Museum of Campli which preserves the precious grave goods from the nearby necropolis of Italica Campovalano.
Program
- Nature walk at the Grotto of St. Angelo, certainly the largest and most fascinating of the many karst caves that open up between the Twin Mountains, on the border between the Marche and Abruzzo. This site holds a strong cultural and natural value. Is frequented by numerous archaeological excavations since the Paleolithic period as a place of worship and residence. Do not forget, also, the importance it has had over the centuries as a place of hermitage: the bedding on the stone, the oven is still blackened, the cistern, the thirteenth-century altar are, even today, a clear testimony. La Grotta di Sant'Angelo is set among limestone cliffs shaped by water, rocks and thick vegetation; is also located in close proximity to the picturesque waterfall of Caccamo.
- Guided visit to the National Archaeological Museum of Campli: The museum is directly connected to the nearby Necropolis Campovalano who returned over the course of about forty years of research, more than 600 tombs from the Iron Age and Romanization. The exhibition, including richly decorated pottery, weapons and precious jewelry, illustrates the evolution of funerary rites at the ethnicity of Petruzi, the ancient people who inhabited the northern region of Abruzzo and he has given, most likely, the name to the same region.
