Alfedena: the Ancient land of Sanniti

Alfedena, a town bordering the National Park of Abruzzo , Lazio and Molise, was a land inhabited by Sanniti warriors and women in pre-Roman times. In addition to historical sources a witness to the importance of the ancient Aufidena is a vast necropolis (the necropolis of Campo Consolino) that returned a large quantity of finds. Among the most suggestive there are: armor discs with a fantastic animal, weapons and jewelry of breathtaking beauty. Behind the necropolis, on the hill overlooking the Sangro river, there is the Curino's Acropolis,sacred to the Gods and surrounded by megalithic walls. It was  an important river track since the VII century BC

Trip Program: after a walk in the Borgo of Alfedena we'll visit the ruins of the ancient castle with its octagonal tower and we'll have the opportunity to reach the Acropolis walking in the shadow of the pinetree forest (a walk of about 20 minutes). After that you'll have a guided visit to the Museo Civico Archeologico A. De Nino.

As an alternative to visiting the Acropolis - Curino's Valley  you can have a guided visit of the Borgo with the ancient De Amicis palace, the Church and the Rio Torto gorge walking in the nature trail.
