The plains.. in the mountains !

Geotourism in the Majella National Park: the Major Plateaus of Abruzzo.

"The plains ... in the mountains!" is one of the routes connected to "When Gaia discovers Maja", a project of Geotourism (geological tourism) in the Majella National Park and surrounding areas. The ultimate goal is to explain the landscape that surrounds us, the geological history and its evolution, going to provide the tools of knowledge useful to read (and understand) the Planet Earth we live on.

"The plains ... in the mountains!" is a fascinating route that crosses the Major Plateaus of Abruzzo (the Five Miles Plateau, Aremogna Plateau, the Quarti di Santa Chiara and Barone) presented by the geologist as Quaternary intermontane basins, which 'open' like pearls set among limestone ridges and which give testimony to a recent geological landscape and current evolving.
