Atri and Silvi Alta.

09:00am: Meeting in Atri. We start with a nice walk in this beautiful town to reach Piazza Duomo and visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta dating back to 1285 and recently renovated. Its four portals of the thirteenth century are products of  magnificent craftsmanship, while the interior has three naves, a square apse with a wonderful cycle of frescoes work of Andrea Delitio, an Abruzzo XV century artist.  In the same square we can visit the Municipal Theatre dated back to XIX century, perfectly preserved and still active for its extraordinary acoustics.

11:30am: Visit to one of the very few farms that produces handmade  organic Pecorino di Atri; this cheese is a semi-hard variety produced in limited quantity which is obtained from raw whole sheep's milk. You will partecipate to the preparation stages of the cheese, starting with the so-called 'curd'.

1:30pm-2:00pm: We'll have lunch with local fresh produce at a typical restaurant which uses ingredients chosen from the best local specialties.

4:00pm: Visit to Silvi Alta, whose history merges with that of Atri because it was its  fief for a long time.Its name probably comes from the term "Silvae", wooded area; infact Romans called it "Castrum Silvae" as,  from a military standpoint, it was a strategic zone. In the town we'll admire notable architectural remains of the thirteenth century.

5:00pm Visit to the Matalucci Ortenzia Oil mill (Pineto). Ortenzia belong to the third generation of olive oil producer. Se learned her job from Grandpa' Girolamo. We'll have a tasting of the olive  oil produced by Ortenzia.
