Valentine day: discover the Abruzzo's artisan tradition
The goldsmith of Abruzzo, from Presentosa to little hands, to tell the rituals from courtship to marriage; the Abruzzese blanket that envelops and warms us between Angels blindfolded and smiling; the Castelli's ceramics with their landscapes that were the backdrop to the outpourings of love.
Meeting point the Church of Santa Maria in Piano that houses, on the inner façade, one of the most charming and elegant Final Judgement of Italy. In the Absidale area dominates the Baroque altar of carved wood and the pulpit decorated with polychrome marble; in the side chapels, frescoes with saints, the Stories of the Virgin, of Christ, of St. Thomas and many votive to Our Lady of Mercy who poured tears of blood on June 15 of a ancient time.
From Colle Piano after admiring the view and the picturesque urban organization of the village we follow the panoramic route, stopping to admire and steal some enchanted shots. This is the best place to contemplated this small nativity sets the hill Whose top is inhabited by the two great powers, Theological and Temporal.
The tour begins from Porta Castello where you are immersed in the oldest part of the village that leads directly to the Castello Chiola, now an admirable 4 Stars hotel.
The main church, San Pietro Apostolo holds the remains of the ancient patron Thomas Aquinas and of the present Patron Zopito to whom is dedicated a huge celebration on Whit Monday.
In Via del Baio there are the most important palaces and at the end, next to the Cathedral, the Ceramics Museum that tells the story of Baron Giacomo Acerbo and his valuable private collection, a flagship of the Museums of Loreto. Another jewel in the crown is certainly the Olive Oil Museum for its quality and its location inside the Palace Amorotti. Here you can get an idea of the typical product of excellence of Loreto Aprutino: the extra virgin olive oil.
The current historic center has ample space to walk around and explore the crafts and food. While strolling you find the baker, the butcher, the potter, the goldsmith, the woman selling fabrics and blankets that will illustrate the Abruzzo traditional crafts.
And finally a tasty and decorative gift from the guide.
