Discovery the Vomano Valley exploring villages, crafts and food.

A tour in the Vomano valley visiting Canzano and Castelbasso and a final stop for a wine  tasting at the vineyards Cerulli-Spinozzi.

This tour is suitable for those who can not resist the charm of the small villages to explore a bit at a time, as in a treasure hunt. But for sure also the gourmands will like it, as they'll have the opportunity to taste the famous 'tacchino alla canzanese' (turkey canzanese style),  which, they say, is one of the dishes offered to astronauts. Also it is a good opportunity for those who want to learn all about the wine of the colline teramane (Teramo area hills).

So let's start our journey from Canzano, a village known for the processing of the laces and the 'tacchino alla Canzanese'. Certainly you'll like to walk through  the small and very neat medieval city center, under the protection of St. Biagio. In the village there still is a lace school (and  museum)  directed by an old teacher who transmits her art with  past-times passion and rigor, as students coming from all over the province say. After visiting the old town you go, just outside the village, towards the church of San Salvatore. The church, which is part of a Benedictine abbey, has within a rich cycle of frescoes of the fourteenth century painted by the Maestro di Offida. Later we will go to Madonna dell'Alno, a church surrounded by greenery, built in the fifteenth century after a miraculous event.

Meanwhile, being the right time, you will have the chance to choose between a lunch in a typical restaurant renowned for the Tacchino alla canzanese (about 25,00euro), or a rich aperitif in the scenic village of Castellalto (about 10,00euro ).

The visit will continue in Castelbasso. Hard not to be charmed by this village, made up of narrow streets and small squares scented of sage and mint, and crowded with cats. During summer Castelbasso is home to an important contemporary art event , organized by Associazione Malvina Menegaz. The walk through the alleys will be particularly welcome to children.

The last stop in our tour includes a visit to the ancient  Cerulli-Spinozzi    estate. Here we'll have a wine tasting according to the  philosophy of the  Cerulli-Spinozzi family: sticking to traditions  without giving up  innovation. For several years now the family has been producing organic wines. Weather permitting the owners will accompany us on a visit to the vineyards (on foot, by bicycle, or by jeep), telling us their story connected to wine.
