Picturesque villages that overlook  the Teramo coast, among vineyards, olive groves, and important architectural remains.

I recommend this tour to people  who love to immerse themselves in the gentle hills of the Teramo coast, filled with vineyards and olive trees to cross at a slow pace, but also to those who want to taste the most representative products of the territory.

Meeting point is the main square of Corropoli, a village 100 meters above sea level built on a Neolithic settlement. In summer the village is a typical scenario for Palio delle Botti ( barrels Palio). Our walk starts with a visit to the historical center, whose profile is characterized by one of four twin bell towers in the province, made by Antonio da Lodi. Soon after we start walking towards the abbey of Santa Maria in Mejulano, usually called Badia. We will visit the exquisite building erected on a temple dedicated to the goddess Flora, that became during the Eleventh  a Benedictine abbey. The building has a fascinating and complex history, with mysterious references, such as the underground passageway that would connect the Abbey to the coast, or the tales of horrific torture by the Nazis when it was used as a concentration camp. Currently the building is home to the Liceo aeronautico 'G. D’Annunzio'.

From the Badia we'll walk ahead on the provincial road  direction  Controguerra. Before we reach the village, we will stop at a farm to visit the museum of country tradition and  to taste extra virgin olive oils.

Finally we arrive to Controguerra, wine country, as we read on the sign that greets us at the entrance of the village. Here, in the municipal enoteca, we  taste  a  selection of wines from Teramo area, combined with some typical products. These wines in recent years are experiencing a good notoriety even outside the national borders and they will certainly be a pleasant surprise.

In the afternoon we  move by car to Corropoli, medieval village perched on the hill and depicted  by a beautiful staircase that leads to the center of the village; from here a series of steep alleys unravels with a unique sea view. The village, during the summer months, offers a variety of cultural and wine and food events, and January 6th it's a suggestive location of a live nativity scene.
