Abruzzolink: guided tours with locals

Ortona

I'll tell you about the war.

With Andrea Di Marco

Andrea Di Marco

The places of memory.

Starting from an in-depth analysis of the territory and an explanation of the events that led to the preparatory phases and the most operational phases of the war events from the Sangro river to the Moro River, it will be possible to explore and know the places where weapons departments faced each other towards the end of November and the whole month of December 1943.

The tour is developed through a preliminary analysis of the battlefield, both from an orographic and hydrographic point of view, as an obstacle to the Allied advance, the visitor will be able to examine the German defenses along the slopes of the hills that alternate from the valley. of the River Moro up to the road Marrucina Orsogna - Ortona, to cross the points where the Canadian troops managed to break through the German defense lines, to arrive at the meticulous and detailed knowledge of the places and places where there were fights home by house inside the inhabited center of Ortona.

Through the stories of the protagonists it will be possible to rediscover the commitment, the courage, the spirit of sacrifice, the feelings and the fears of men in arms with different uniforms.

Starting with a short visit to the Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, in Contrada San Donato, as if on a backward journey, the visitor will retrace the most significant places of the battle of Ortona, from the assault on the crossing of the Moor to the capture of Villa San Leonardo, from the capture of the Quadrivio "CIDER" to the fighting for the city, from the operations west of Ortona up to the advance at Torre Mucchia.
